The thing is, he reviewed it before the release of the new OS 1.1 update for Pleo's personality.

Hopefully Scott will have the heart to download the new OS and give it another review!!

£6.6m Fund To Make Robots Friendlier - Report

Apparently scientists in the EU have been giving £6.6m to make robots more friendly so they will be easier to work with humans. This is probably more relevant to my Domestic Robots blog, but I thought many of you here would be interested!

It's amazing how robots have evolved from the Furby to the Pleo and the new range of Wow Wee robots. I think we're in for a very interesting year in terms of toy robots and in the next decade, if more money is being spent on it, I think it'll blow our minds!

You're now able to improve your Pleo with a software updated if you wanted. Other people that have have said that he explores more. Whilst Ugobe themselves have said that with the updatet they have allowed to better "see and detect objects and properly navigate around them".

Also when your Pleo is around other Pleo's their behavouir will change and will start to sing.

It sounds cool to me! I'm just downloading mine!

Many seem to be getting stock in a couple of weeks whilst the others aren't saying when they're getting stock.

If you've got a Pleo and you want to programme it to do stuff - you'll need the MySkit Performance Editor for the Pleo from the guys at DogsBodynet.com

You can also take a look at the YAPT tool too!

They look a bit technical and I'll need a couple of hours I expect to make one, but I'll try and give it a go later!

If anyone else wants to give it a go, then feel free and don't forget to post the videos here!

Wowwee! New Robots For Christmas

You thought the Pleo was great! Well you haven't seen anything yet! I thought you may be interested to know what's going to be released later on this year.

Check these new robots out. Some are pets suitable for a wide range of ages, whilst some are bit more sophisticated.

1) Wrex The Dog
This is a troublesome dog that is naughty as can be, but doesn't leave a mess. In his own special way

2) Tribot
This isn't my favourite of the new robots for this year, it'll drive me mad as he'll go on and on and ..

3) Rovio
Now this is the one that I'm most excited about. It'll keep guard of your home whilst you're out and you can watch its webcam from anywhere in the world - simply awesome!

4) Mr Personality
Now I'm not so sure about this one, its a bit like the Tribot, but see what you think.

5) Femisapien
I just love this one. When I was first reviewing it I thought it was a bit naff. But when I saw the video of it I realised how catchy it is. Also check out the dedicated Femisapien site.

6) FlyTech Bladestar
I'm not so much of a fan of these - but I'm sure if I didn't have low ceilings at home I'd be annoying the girlfriend no-end with it!

7) Alive Robot Pet Animals
These are a bit like the Pleo, but they're cute and cuddly toy lions, pandas and tigers. They do look cute, but I'm not sure how interactive they are yet.

Where Are Pleo's Touch Sensors?

Where are Pleo's touch sensors you may ask? Well they're here:

If it's a bit hard for you to see, he's got touch sensors on his shoulders - between his front legs at the top. He's also got them on his backside (don't know why you'd want to be touching there anyway!) which are just at the top between his back legs. He's also got them on his outer thighs on all four legs. There's also one on his chin (he loves being tickled here). And there's one on the top of his head from the front sensors, between his nostrils and up to the top of his head.

There's also sensors on the bottom of his feet so he knows when he's being picked up!

Can Pleo Sing?

Well here's an interview with the guys at Ugobe who give the information:

It basically says that you can "shadow" Pleo's sounds, i.e. it used to do make a certain sound when it's eating, but you can change that to be another sound, perhaps yourself eating!

Can Pleo Interact With Other Pleo's?

The answer is yes - to a degree. Because they use infra-red to move around they can cross-beams and react that way. In time you'll be able to programme them to respond to other infra-red beams.

Not Long Until You Get Your Tweaking Software

It's something they've been working on, but soon you'll be able to download the software to allow you to tweak Pleo's basic traits!

The sooner, the better if you ask me!

Also there should be some firmware updates fairly soon.
